About Dr. U
Engineer by training. Founder by calling.
I grew up in Nigeria eating papaya fresh from the tree, and I was running a supermarket in Asaba at 18. Later I moved to Texas, where I earned a master’s at Rice University and a Ph.D. in Electrical & Computer Engineering at Texas A&M. I went on to work in technology at Texas Instruments and in research labs at Intel, HP and IBM.
Then, while I was pregnant with my third child, I went looking for the papaya I remembered from home and couldn’t find it anywhere. So I built a simple website and a tea mock-up, and I ran a Google ad for $10 a day. The next morning I had five orders. That was the start of Herbal Goodness. Today it offers more than 80 superfoods and super herbs through Amazon, our own store and independent retailers. Along the way it became WBENC-certified as a 100% women- and minority-owned business.
The first year brought in about $300, and the real growth took years of consistency. That’s exactly why I mentor. I bring an engineer’s love of data and systems together with more than a decade of hard-won lessons in sourcing, manufacturing, Amazon, branding and marketing, so you can move faster than I did.
